Direct Coffee Kyoto is located close to the popular Teramachi shopping arcade in this famous ancient city. If you've ever been on a trip to Kyoto, you've likely walked down this arcade, and probably even purchased a souvenir or two to take home with you.
There was a good selection of sweets at this lovely cafe in Kyoto, some of which were on display in the cabinet. When I asked about one of the sweets that wasn't on display, the staff was kind enough to show me a photo of the item on the store's tablet, and explain a little about the item.
Aside from the lovely presentation, the strawberry mille-feuille pastry I ordered was very crunchy and crumbly, which I was happy about - there's nothing worse than soggy pastry! Please be aware that the strawberry mille-feuille pictured here is a seasonal item, and may not be on the menu when you visit. Direct Coffee Kyoto is pretty good at updating their Instagram page, so you should be able to find updates about seasonal offerings there.
According to the cafe's Instagram page and store signage, they also offer vegan sweets and coffee based cocktails, which I'd love to try one afternoon. I had a simple iced cafe latte (my regular!) on the day of my visit and absolutely loved it. I often find the beans in Japan too bitter for my liking, but this one was great! I'd definitely come back to this cafe in Kyoto for another coffee and sweet treat if I have the chance!
Not everything at Direct Coffee is vegan, so be sure to check with the staff before ordering.
Kyoto is one of the most popular tourist sites in all of Japan, so be sure to allow for ample time for sightseeing in famous places such as Uji and Arashiyama, or spend time exploring a little bit of everything!
